Cyber threats are a constant concern in today’s digital world, and organizations need who are skilled at preventing attacks by cybercriminals.

The Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering at St. Mary’s University offers a master’s program that provides students with knowledge, skills and best practices on monitoring, securing and safeguarding organizations’ digital assets.

Students get hands-on experience with protecting networks, computers, programs and institutional data from attack, damage or unauthorized access.

Program of Study

The Master of Science in Cybersecurity is a 33-credit-hour program. Students may elect a thesis or a project (non-thesis) option.

This uniquely St. Mary’s program combines technical rigor with sound ethics and implications to the law.

    Graduates from the Master of Science in Cybersecurity program at St. Mary’s University will be able to:

    1. Demonstrate cybersecurity principles, design approaches, standards and new technologies.
    2. Show knowledge, skills and best practices on how to monitor, secure and safeguard cyber assets.
    3. Apply hands-on skills to protecting networks, computers, programs and institutional data from attacks, damage or unauthorized access.
    4. Demonstrate sound digital forensic methodology in the examination of different operating systems.
    5. Explain software defects and vulnerabilities, as well as how to mitigate defects through the software design process.

Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the Master of Science in Cybersecurity program, applicants must:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 for their bachelor’s degree.
  • International students must submit the TOEFL with a minimum of 80 or their IELTS test and show a minimum score of 6.0 or 115 on Duolingo
  • Submit a completed application, a written statement of purpose, two letters of recommendation and official college transcripts.
  • Résumé or CV

The M.S. in Cybersecurity at St. Mary’s does not require GRE scores.
